Cast on 66 Sts, this is a great number for the ribbing.  Row 10 you will be making several increases, increasing to 90 Sts total.  The increase in Sts will help with the natural shrinkage when you add in the cabled bunnies in the body of the hat, enabling your hat to fit great.

Here’s a little math, if you are interested;  Each pattern repeat is 15 Sts.  I used 3 Sts(first 3 sts noted in each row) in between each Bunny, which is 12 Sts.  Using 6 Repeats of 15 Sts, will equal 90 Sts.  You can easily add more or less stitches in between each bunny pattern to adjust the size if necessary.

More detailed instructions for Bunny Tail (Bobble Stitch in Row 15)

red bun.jpgRow 1; Create your Bunny Tail in the M1 from previous Row 14. Bring the yarn over your needle to the front, create a yarn over. Knit the next stitch but do not drop the stitch off the needle.  Yarn over again, bring the yarn between the tips of your needles, and knit into this same stitch again.  Repeat this for a third time:  yarn over, knit the same stitch.   You've now created 6 stitches from that one stitch for your Bunny Tail..
Row 2; Turn your work around so that the back side is facing you, and work those same 6 stitches.  Holding your yarn to the front of your work, slip the first stitch to the right needle.  Purl the next 5 stitches.
Row 3; Turn your work so that your right side is facing you again. With yarn held to the back, slip the first stitch, without knitting it, knit the next 5 stitches.
Row 4; Turn again, and purl 2 together three times.
Row 5; Turn to the right side once more and slip one stitch, knit 2 together, then pass the slipped stitch over that stitch and give it a little tug.

Note:  You are creating a Bunny Tail while in our first row of cables, it may get a little tricky.  You only need a total of 6 Bunny Tails, by the time you finish your 6th one, you’ll be a pro!  There are lots of great YouTube instructional videos on how to create a Bobble stitch, you may even opt to try a Nupp stitch.  Have Fun with it.

Block using preferred method appropriate for yarn.  Let’s make a pom pom too, put it on top.  Perfect!
